1. Who We Are

La French Tech Tokyo ("we", "us", "our") is an international community certified by La Mission French Tech, a French government programme supporting the growth of the French tech and startup ecosystem worldwide. Our community is made up of volunteer entrepreneurs, founders, investors, and tech professionals based in Japan, with the mission of connecting the local and French tech ecosystems, promoting France, supporting startup internationalisation, and attracting talent and investors. We operate this website and related community services.

2. Data We Collect

We collect personal data through the following channels:

Newsletter subscription

  • First name, last name (optional)
  • Email address (required)

Whitepaper download

  • First name, last name (optional)
  • Email address (required)
  • Newsletter preference (optional)

Community member profile

When you join our Slack community and complete your member profile, we collect:

  • First name, last name
  • Email address
  • Company and job title
  • LinkedIn URL and mobile phone number (optional)
  • Location, nationality, and company country
  • Gender and age range
  • Professional status and company size
  • Community activities and motivations (multiple-choice)

3. How We Use Your Data

We occasionally prepare anonymised community statistics and may share them with sponsors, institutional partners, or La Mission French Tech. These reports describe the community as a whole (for example, age ranges, professional backgrounds, or geographic spread) and contain no information that could identify any individual member.

4. Third-Party Services

We share data with the following sub-processors to operate our services:

These services may transfer data outside the European Economic Area. Where applicable, such transfers are governed by appropriate safeguards including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as you are an active member of our community or subscribed to our newsletter. If you request deletion, we will remove your data from our systems within 30 days.

Community members who have not completed their profile and have not responded to our reminders may be removed from the community after 30 days.

6. Your Rights Under GDPR

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of access — request a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification — correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Right to erasure — request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Right to restriction — ask us to limit how we process your data in certain circumstances.
  • Right to data portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Right to object — object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Right to withdraw consent — withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.

La French Tech Tokyo is run entirely by volunteers. Where possible, we encourage you to use our self-service tools:
